Yo dudes and dude-ettes, how goes the battle?
Been very busy these last couple o' months; haven't had much time to let the mind wander and sit back and relax... Or maybe that was i had too much time and i kept putting things off... thats more likely :-D
Well, in June we moved into our new house in Chestermere, Alberta. It's about 10 minutes outside of Calgary. The house is beautiful and in a great community with great neighbours. We only lasted less than 1.5 years at our other house LOL. We're using it as a rental property.
The new house is 3 years old (so was the other one when we bought that). It's is almost 2400sq/ft top level and if you take into account the basement, about 4000sq/ft (or there abouts) I think. I drool over the basement since I finally have room for my pool table and theatre room.
I moved the pool table from Mom's where it's been for like 10 years and re-felted it burgundy. It looks brand new since it wasn't used much at Mom's. The basement there wasn't done and it was hard to play with so much stuff packed in there.
In the theatre room, I have the 7.1 surround sound setup with two subwoofers mounted on the wall :-) (had to get two sets of the speakers since they only came with 5 and i needed 7 - couldn't get them separately but this way i have spares and the extra sub). The best part is that I can turn up the sound to its max and no one will hear outside - or just a muffle at its peak. The area of the basement where the room is has only one side exposed a neighbours house and the wall and ground help to decrease the sound going outside. I'm sooooo happy - now all i need is the TV LOL :-) With all this, we don't have a TV in the room; we're waiting to get a 72" in here when we can afford it.
It's a beautiful house and i'd never have thought we'd have one so soon. It was all thanks to Mom and Anoop. Anoop bought his house (which is on the lake - ours is off the golf course) last year and was going to take posession on June 1st. Mom was like bugging us to move there too so she could be closer to Rosmina and as a bonus would remove the need for putting Rosmina in a DayHome while we're at work. Finally after a LOT of bugging, I jokingly told her "OK! STOP! Go find me a big house that I can put my pool table and theatre in (:-D) and then we'll move!".
One day, they (Mom, Anoop, Deepti & Aneesh) were going to Vancouver and Anoop wanted to say bye to Rosmina so they were coming over. On the way Mom just saw the advertisement just by chance - a total fluke - in the newspaper and called me on the way to call the guy about it.
When they get to the house, Anoop is walking in talking to the guy as well LOL. Now the guy knows him from before (mortgage matters) and Anoop makes an appointment to go see the house right then and there since the guy was going to show it to someone else the next day :-) Nazima has friends coming over for supper so she stays at home while we all head out to Chestermere to check out the house. We saw it and I said yes then and there (after calling Nazima of course), and went back to Mom's where we gave the guy a deposit and signed an offer to purchase LOL! I brought Nazima to see the house the next day to show her what we just bought LOL
She didn't like some things but they were easy enough to fix and some of it the guy was responsible for so that wasn't bad. We had the entire house painted from celing to doors before we moved in. The funny thing was, we hadn't signed any papers for the house other than the offer to purchase and we got the key so the painters, phone, cable, gas, electricity and carpet cleaners could go in and do their stuff. And we still didn't have anything signed when we moved in LOL!
It was all because Anoop knew the guy and the owner of the house allowed us to do all this otherwise it would have taken another 3-4 weeks. And Anoop being the super mortgage broker he is, he and Mom and Deepti sorted out the mortgage for us. (DEAR GOD, HE ASSIMILATED THEM BOTH AND TURNED THEM INTO MORTGAGE BROKERS - then they tried to assimilate Nazima and Me LOL - REALLY!)
Well that the story about the house :-)
Update: Oh yeah - it's OCTOBER now and they STILL haven't moved in! Anoop wants to extend the rooms to make an additional master bedroom first. Even at that, they haven't started any construction. LOL
