On June 26th (2007) we took off for England for my cousin Harry's wedding. It was a blast; we got to see a lot of family some we haven't seen in a long time and alot of them got to meet Nazima and Rosmina for the first time.
The first thing I did after we got to Chachiji's house was eat fish and chips and a mixed kabob on a bun - I said I would not eat anything else, I must have fish and chips first! LOL Harry took me to get some from a great place. I pretty much had fish and chips during the majority of the trip - there was even a potato (and fish I think) shortage while I was there and it was gone when we got back - hahahahahhahahahha.
The last time I was in England was in 1999 when I stayed for about a year (being a British Citizen) so I got to know everyone a lot and Harry's best friends and even though I didn't remember all of the Bros' names, they were great and made me feel like I hadn't even left.
We went to Ireland to visit Nazima's brother - Sanjeev and his wife Kasha and baby Jay. We changed Rosmina's diaper in front of the parliment building (i think thats what it was LOL) in Belfast. Sightseeing was great and I took a dip in the sea - you should see the vid LOL. I think one of the best parts was going to the Guinness Brewery in Dublin - free beer! And Nazima even drank one - first time ever :-)
In France we went to Paris and Euro-Disney - Rosmina loved that. Rosmina met Minnie Mouse and she just loves Mickey Mouse. The last time I was in Paris, I only went to the second level of the Eiffel Tower and I wanted to go to the top this time. Unfortunately we didn't make it in time - oh well, next time - but the light show they have at the tower is great.
When we first got to Paris, it was late around 1am and even with exact directions and a map, we kinda got lost in the dark. There were some cops (4 in one car - LOL) on the side of the road giving someone a ticket and we stopped there to ask for directions. My french was limited and their english was almost non-existant so we had a bit of trouble getting directions from them - finally they just said "Follow Us" and we ended up getting a police escort to the hotel - hahahhahhaha.
In the morning we were on the way to the metro to check out Paris and on the way there was a cemetery. Now I have a thing for very old graves so I thought we'd check it out. There was an arangement of roses at the gate and Nazima wanted a picture sitting with them. I take the picture and with the camera still in my hand, I turn around to step onto the sidewalk. Unfortunately there was a block by my left foot (something to keep cars from driving onto the sidewalk) and I hit my ankle on it, fell over, hit and scraped my knee big time and the camera slammed into the sidewalk. It was the lens that took the brunt of the force since it hadn't turned the camera off yet and the lens was still extended. The casing was scratched up and the lens would no longer close up, I was so worried that we'd have to buy a new one . After a bit of jiggling around, we got the camera to work but the lens would no longer fully contract - I could care less, it was working and saved us money from having to buy a new one. The camera lasted for the entire trip and died completely the day after we got back - what luck!
On the way back to England, it seems that our return ticket for the Euro-Tunnel had expired and we were stuck in France with no way to get back. They wanted over 250 Euros for a ticket back when I paid maybe a 1/3 of that online. They just wouldn't give us the online price - the woman kept saying "go online and book a ticket or have someone do it" - and we're sitting there going "like WTF why don't you just do it now??". We finally just parked in the industrial area and called Anoop to get Deepti to go online and book the tickets - totaly crazy.
