All right well on Sunday I joined the list of those have taken the plunge We took Josh Ji to West Edmonton Mall over the weekend where we went skating, bumper boat water fighting and swimming & sliding in the water park. I didn't plan on bungee jumping although i've always wanted to do it but when i saw that they had it available, i jumped I wasn't going to be jumping for another hour and 15 minutes while they went on their break so during that time we all had fun in the pool, swimming, sliding; and in Nazima's case almost drowning after going on the most dangerous (advanced) slide which was almost a straight drop When the time came, I took an elevator to the 2nd floor, walked along to the end of the pool where they prepared me with the harness (since I was going to jump using the ankle harness, they would put that on at the platform) and the final climb to the jumping off point. While they were preparing me, one of the staff asks if i'm nervous. I reply "No, I've been waiting to do this for a long time. I'm more nervous when I have to change my daughter's diaper". Oh how these words would haunt me later! We took the final walk up to the platform which was about 2 stories up. When we got there, they put on the ankle harness and had me move into position for jumping. When I got there, I looked down and thought "DEAR GOD WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!?!?" I looked at the guy and said "Now I am nervous" LOL On the first count, I stop and say "I can't do this, what was i thinking? Oh god!". On the second count, I stop and say "No wait, let me think this through..Ok, gotta wave to my wife..." I look for where I think Nazima is standing and filming and start waving. On count three, I stop and say "Are you sure I have to dive? I don't know how to dive. Can't you just PUSH me? Can't I just jump?" They say they can't push me (duh) but as long as i lean forward and fall with my feet behind me, that'll be ok. Finally on the last count, "5...4...3...2...1..." I close my eyes, bend my knees, lean forward and let myself fall. I open my eyes on my first rebound and see everything bouncing here and there. By that time, i knew i was safe since the bungee rope held and i hadn't ended up in the pool or splatted onto the pool bottom and there wasn't any fear or nervousness. It's when you first jump that you're probably scared the most since you don't know if you're going to be held up or not - no tangable security. Unlike the Ejection Seat at the Stampede where you're strapped into a chair giving you some sembelance of security (and perhaps safety). Now, in hind sight maybe i should have used the waist harness because the ankle harness dug into my skin a bit and was hurting. I was able to wave a few times while i bounced quite a bit but finally settled down and waited to be lowered towards the rope so i could pull myself towards the side of the pool where other staff would help me out. Now there's really nothing for me to do while i'm hanging there by my ankles with my arms dangling down so like i said i settled down and let myself "hang" and not make any movements I got a crack out of that, I told them after the staff removed the harnesses that what did they expect me to do? I waved a few times but because I was bouncing around so much and being upside down, i couldn't tell where I was looking and where they were - not to mention I didn't have any glasses on LOL Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I will definately try it at least ONE more time. Not really for the sake of doing it or getting a rush but the next time I want to keep my eyes open while I make that first leap and watch as I'm falling... |
