We missed our flight back!

And before I forget all the details, I'd better write down what happened on the glorious return trip...

For our return flight, we woke up around 4am so we had enough time to get from Wolverhampton to Gatwick. Well with Nazima's wonderful directions, we got delayed getting out of Wolverhampton but still more than enough time to get to Gatwick.

Unfortunately there was traffic and traffic and more traffic, we had to detour for gas since there wasn't a Welcome Break for some miles. Then there was the chemical spill when a lorry turned over on the M25 and the traffic backed up for ever while they cleaned it up. I think it was over 4-6 hours before they got it sorted.

While this is all happening the time is ticking down for us. Nazima is saying "we'll make it, we'll make it" (you must think happy thoughts - yeah right) - somehow she figures even if we're there just before the plane is supposed to leave they'll let us on. Anyways, we get to the airport at 11:00 and I knew we're not going to get on when we passed the gate closing time on the road but Nazima still believed...alas. I rushed through returning the car and we all ran to the airport pushing the baggage carts up the ramps, here, there, left, right, down the ramp until we got to the checkin desk where (not surprisingly duh!) it was all shutdown and completely empty. Nazima gets on a wall phone to ask for help and they tell her sorry, the plane already left the gate and checkin had already been closed long before. It was one of those "I told you so" moments.
